God’s Whisper

Message Title: God’s Whisper

Message Truth: The best prayer is not always spoken words but a surrendered heart.

Message Text: Romans 8:26-27

  1. We need help with our prayers (Romans 8:26)

“In the same way the Spirit also helps us in our weakness, because we do not know what to pray for as we should…”
Application:

  • Don’t let guilt keep you from prayer, When you’re weak, come anyway.
  • When you don’t know what to say, say this: “Holy Spirit, help me.” Weakness is not the enemy-self-reliance is.
  • “God is drawn to weakness that surrenders, not strength that resists.”

  1. We need help with our pain (Romans 8:27)

“…but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings.” “And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit…”

Application:

  • Trust that even when you don’t feel heard, you are being heard. Even if you fell lost, God does not lose track of his children.
  • Remember: the most powerful prayers aren’t always spoken—they’re surrendered.

  1. We need to practice listening to the Spirit (1 Kings 19:11-13)

From the pages of scripture, Gods native language is a gentle whisper, a whisper is hard to hear and easy to ignore.

Maybe God whispers not because he is evasive but because He is intimate.  Maybe God whispers because that’s the He can get what He wants most, what was lost in Eden. To walk with us in familiar intimacy that we might know who He truly is and truly discover ourselves in His presence.

The big mistake most sincere Christians make is treating prayer and listening to the Spirit like a prescription, something taken temporarily to deal with a specific issue, instead of a vitamin, something taken daily to maintain good health.

Application:

Fill your ordinary, daily life with the regular practice of active listening, and that’ll make the Spirit’s whisper in the big, pressure-packed decisions a language you can hear.”
