Grace Does That?
The Surprising Power of Gods Amazing Grace
Message Title: Grace Shows Kindness – Grace Experienced = Grace Expressed
Message Truth: Grace is the divine favor of God, given freely out of his good pleasure, to bring delight and joy, to those who receive it.
Message Text: 2 Samuel 9
David’s Initiative:
After becoming king, David seeks out anyone remaining from the house of Saul to whom he can show kindness, specifically for Jonathan’s sake. Ziba, a servant of the house of Saul, informs David that Jonathan’s crippled son, Mephibosheth, is still alive.
Mephibosheth’s Initial Fear:
Mephibosheth is understandably apprehensive about being brought before the king, as he may have expected retribution for his family’s lineage. David reassures Mephibosheth, promising to show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake. He restores all the land of Saul to Mephibosheth and grants him a place at the king’s table.
Honoring Jonathan:
David’s kindness is a tangible way of honoring his friendship with Jonathan and fulfilling the oath they made to each other. The act of eating at the king’s table was a significant honor, symbolizing that Mephibosheth was considered a member of the royal family and was under the king’s protection and care.
Two Main Points:
1.King David is a picture of Jesus Christ
2.Mephibosheph is a picture of us in two ways:
- David’s Grace to Mephibosheth is a wonderful picture of God’s Grace to us.
- David’s Grace to Mephibosheth is an example of loving others.
