Message Title: Humility is the Key to Thanksgiving
Message Truth: Humility is the soil where thanksgiving can grow.
Message Text: Isaiah 57:15-16, Isaiah 66:1-2
One Dominating Command – No other gods before me
One Dominating Principle – Go low to go high
1.God dwells in a high and Holy place – God is greater in kind not just degree
2.We cant go up but God can come down
1.God is beyond us and very powerful and independent.
2.God gives His favor and blessing to the humble and those who honor Gods word
How humility fosters thankfulness
- Shifts focus from self to others: Humility moves the focus away from a self-centered view and acknowledges that others and God have contributed to one’s well-being.
- Recognizes unearned blessings: It allows for the appreciation of gifts, as it counters the belief that you have a right to them. Without humility, you may feel that you have simply earned something and don’t need to be thankful for it.
- Cultivates a realistic perspective: Humility involves seeing oneself in relation to a larger reality— God, a community, and the world—which makes one more likely to acknowledge the generosity of others and the source of one’s blessings.
- Enables contentment in hardship: A humble heart can remain thankful even in difficult times because it understands that it is not entitled to ease and grace.
