Just As He Told You

“Just As He Told You”

Mark 16:1-7

When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. 2 Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb 3 and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?” 4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. 5 As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.

6 “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’” Mark 16:1-7

In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. 3 After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.” Acts 1:1-4

Five Minimal Facts of the Resurrection

  • Jesus Died
  • Empty Tomb
  • Eyewitnesses (The Philosopher Celcus on women)
  • Enemies
  • Emergence of the Church (James and Paul)

Four Fundamental Questions of the Story of the Gospel:

Creation: In what do you find your identity or sense of purpose and significance?

Corruption: Whom or what is the fundamental problem you blame for the things that are broken in your life?

Redemption: Whom or what are you looking to as your savior to rescue or deliver you?

New Creation: What does transformation look like and what is your ultimate hope for the future?”

“If Jesus rose from the dead, then you have to accept all that he said; if he didn’t rise from the dead, then why worry about any of what he said? The issue on which everything hangs is not whether or not you like his teaching but whether or not he rose from the dead.” Tim Keller

“Because of the Resurrection, there is potential for new life in all things.”
