Message Text: Jeremiah 17:5-10
The Picture of the Two Trees Reveals:
The Root of Sin (Jeremiah 17:5)
- Anchor – secures the tree
- Draw Nutrients – if roots go deep enough they allow the tree to survive bad conditions
Sin is planting our roots in something other than God. When we think sin as just violations of rules we are in trouble.
To put our roots down means “trust”. Everyone has faith.
- Religious – We do some of the things God ask us to do to get something from God
- Irreligious- I’m going to live my life my own way.- even though they are religious. They have “roots” placed
- Godly – This person puts their trust (roots) in God because they really trust God. He is their ultimate
The Fruit of Sin (Jeremiah 17: 6-8)
- The rain (drought) (problems) makes little difference, the main thing is where the roots are located.
River – Unchanging God (He is immutable)
The Cure of Sin (Jeremiah 17: 9-10)
- What is it that needs healing? Our Hearts
- To be placed by the river of God, we must let the God of the river plant us.
