A Different King

Message Title: A Different Kind of King

Message Truth: The Cost of Following: Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week, calling believers to follow Jesus, not only in triumph but also through the sacrifice of the cross.

Message Text: Matthew 21:1-11

Three Ways to Receive Jesus

Jesus came to Jerusalem in a particular way and we should receive him.

1.Diliberatly – (vv.1-3)

  • Jesus knew what was going to happen. He did this as publicly as possible. He was not hiding. Many times he said do not tell anyone.

  • It was during the time of Passover – he came as the lamb , 10th Day of Nissan of the month this is the day the nation would select a lamb for Passover.

  • He comes to us deliberately

2.Unussually – (v.4-6)

  • Jesus had walked 90 miles to get there, why ride a donkey the last ¼ mile. Zech 9:9. Jesus arrived on the exact day in Daniel ch.9
  • It was a small donkey. He was not riding high. Might even looked a little silly- unusual. Not coming into Jerusalem on my feet this time.

  • Pilate could have asked “How did this king arrive”? What weapons did he have? How big was his army? The Roman Kingdom died out, but Jesus Kingdom lives forever.

  • Jesus works in our lives in different ways? Will we be ready to receive Him

3.Royally – V.(7-11)

  • People put garments on the donkey, the road and branches on the road- yelling the Messiah title. Hosana (save now) Son of David.

  • He comes as a King , not just a King but the King. JW In the beginning was a word , should be the Word.

  • We don’t just admire a King, we obey the King. He’s a good shepherd

  • How are you moved when Christ comes as King.
