Message Title: Elijah: A human like Us
Message Truth: We will either live with a scarcity mindset or a capacity mindset.
Message Text: 1 Kings 17:10-24
- Surrender – surrendering your will to God and trusting Him to write your story.
- Preparation – letting God do the work necessary in you to do the work he wants to do through you.
- Direction – seeing every moon etas a significant step to becoming the person God wants you to be.
Trusting God in the “Kerith Ravine” (1 Kings 17:1-7): God can provide in unconventional ways (ravens) and sometimes moves us to places of isolation to teach us dependence, contentment, and to prepare us for larger tasks. The safest place to be is in the center of God’s will, even if that place is a desolate, drying brook. When the brook dries up, it forces reliance on God, not the resource.
Obedience During Scarcity (1 Kings 17:8-16): The widow was asked to give her last, small meal to Elijah first. This principle highlights that God often requires a “great sacrifice” to trigger his promise of “great provision,” calling us to prioritize His kingdom over our fear. Obedience always comes before blessing.
God’s Power Over Despair (1 Kings 17:17-24): When the widow’s son dies, Elijah’s interaction reveals that God is not just a provider of daily needs but has the power to overcome death, establishing that he is the Lord.
How Does God Do This? (Matthew 14:17-21)
17 And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.” 18 He said, “Bring them here to Me.” 19 Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. 20 So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. 21 Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
- He Takes (we discover capacity)
- He Blesses (we concentrate, invite God in)
- He Breaks (God reorders our lives through challenges)
- He Gives (God provides)
