Message Title: You Were Created for God
Message Truth: A love relationship with God is more important than any other single factor in your life because disordered loves generate disordered lives.
Message Text: 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself” Matthew 22:37-38
Two Questions:
- What does it mean to love something or someone? A desire to be united with that person and want what is best for them.
- Why is love so powerful? Because of where love comes from – 7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:8
God is not just one who loves but is complete love itself. Complete love includes:
- A lover – Father
- A Beloved – Son
- A Sprit of love – Holy Spirit
Three Truths:
1.The only reason we love anyone is because God first loved us. God is the “expert” on love.
- For God to love something or someone more than himself would be inappropriate, perverted, immoral.
3.When we love anything else supremely more than God, that love becomes disordered and that generates disordered lives. Like God, we must love him supremely in order to love everything else best.
Two Love Test:
- Am I obeying God?- 5 “If you love me, keep my commands.” John 14:15 For this is what love for God is: to keep his commands. And his commands are not a burden,” 1 John 5:3
- Do I Biblically love others unselfishly? – 34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35
